Just call her the fixer. Iyanla Vanzant has helped regular people and celebrities on her new show “Iyanla, Fix My Life.” But on the next edition, Vanzant takes on one of her biggest challenges in troubled actress Maia Campbell. The former “In the House” actress that once had a record deal with Atlantic Records was a rising star when she virtually disappeared from the public eye some years back. Then, the now 35-year-old actress/singer resurfaced in the blogosphere by way of unflattering videos released that showed her half-dressed, incoherent and clearly out of control.

Her late mother, author Bebe Moore Campbell, offered some clues when she wrote the heartbreaking book “72 Hour Hold,” about a mother struggling to help her bipolar daughter. (Campbell simply said at the time that it was about her experiences with a “relative.”) When Campbell died of a brain tumor, her daughter worsened. Speculation was rampant that Maia was the one suffering from bipolar illness coupled with drug addiction. Her fans were asked to pray for her. Some time later Maia emerged, looking better and seemingly on the path to recovery.
