Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Lee plans to use the violence that plagues our neighbor to the north, Chicago, as the basis of a new feature film. Lee’s latest project is called “Chiraq.” Pronounced: “shy-rack,” the name comes from a street term used to describe and compare the violence in the Windy City to the violence of war-torn Iraq. Lee will be in Chicago next month for a film festival and has reportedly consulted with activist priest Father Michael Pfleger and others affected by violence in the city. “The Wrap” says actors Jeremy Piven, a Chicago native, and Samuel L. Jackson have been approached about the film, as have rappers Kanye West and Common, both also Chicago natives.
