Kids Find Dead Body Under Mobile Home

Bloomington Police say Children who were playing hide-and-seek found the body of a man under a mobile home.

The body was discovered Sunday night in the Heatherwood community, but information about the man or how he died wasn’t immediately released. Residents told The Herald-Times that a couple of neighborhood children noticed that feet were sticking out from under a home.

Investigators said foul play is not suspected yet the body was found partially unclothed.

An autopsy is expected to be completed today.

 

Mom and Sons Killed in House Fire

The identities of three people killed in an early-morning house fire over the weekend have been released. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 86 year old Hazel Wood, and her sons, 59 year old Michael and 54 year old Jeffery Wood.

Fire investigators said the victims were sleeping when the fire began. A man who called 911 was inside the house but escaped. Investigators said the home had no working smoke detectors. A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

 

IMPD Reaching out For Help

IMPD is taking a “holistic” approach to reducing crime.  Officials say because of officer shortages, and the increase in homicides and youth violence, the police department is being trained to refer people to community organizations.  Public Safety Director Troy Riggs says “we cannot arrest our way out of the problem,” and recruiting outside help will free up officers to respond to emergencies.

 

Gas Prices Fall in Indianapolis

Gas prices are down in Indianapolis.  According to Gas Buddy, the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in Central Indiana is three-dollars-and-65-cents.  That’s down from three-83 this time last week and three-73 this time last year.

 

State Fair Holding Job Fair This Week

The Indiana State Fair is holding a job fair this week.  On Thursday, officials will be accepting applications for about 500 positions, including ticket sellers, parking attendants and security.  The job fair will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. in the agriculture and horticulture building at the fairgrounds.

 

Two Semi Vs Car Crashes Overnight

One person was injured early this morning when a pickup truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer on the city’s southwest side. The crash was reported just before 5 a.m. near Kentucky Avenue and Mendenhall Road. The driver was taken to Methodist with non-life-threatening injuries after being trapped inside the pickup truck for nearly a half hour.

At least one person was injured Monday night when a car slammed into the back of a tanker truck on the city’s west side near 38th Street and Moller Road.

Witnesses said the driver of the car made no attempts to stop or slow down before crashing into the truck. One person in the car was hospitalized, but the extent of their injuries is not yet known.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
