Donna’s Weekend Entertainment Wrap- Up- May 7, 2017

 What happened in entertainment this week? From 3 biopics, to Bey and Nicki Minaj giving back to the new TLC album… it all happened this week in entertainment.

 

New Edition In Concert

A few Biopics are in the making. Because of the success of the BET New Edition mini-series, Bobby Brown is returning to the network with his own life story. There will be a four hour mini-series entitled “The Bobby Brown Story”. It will focus on Bobby while he was with New Edition and his leaving the group for a successful solo career.

Also there will be “Death Row Chronicles”, a new, six-part documentary covering the rise and fall of Death Row Records. The Bobby Brown Story and Death Row Chronicles will premiere this fall on BET.

And also the DeBarge Family is getting a biopic on TV One. After a successful episode on  UnSung, TV One has decided to go all the way with the upcoming TV bio-pic “All This Love: The DeBarge Family Story”.  The movie will be told from the point of view of the mother Etterline Abney. The beginning with her interracial marriage to Robert DeBarge, to then having 10 children, to signing the DeBarge siblings to Motown and all the other drama that followed.

Some Divas are giving scholarship! Beyonce has started scholarship fund. The Formation Scholarships will be given out beginning for the upcoming fall semester of 2017. Bey has arranged for the awards to be given to students that attend Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design and Spelman College. Beyonce’s Formation Scholarships are for young women studying creative arts, music, and literature or African American studies.

And rapper Nicki Minaj spent Saturday night paying tuition for students with straight A’s. She offered to pay more than $20,000 in student loans for a dozen of her Twitter followers on one condition — they must have straight A’s or an impressive GPA. She has apparently paid over a dozen already!

'Nothing Left Unsaid' New York Premiere

It’s now Live with Kelly and Ryan? Ryan Seacrest has replaced Michael Strahan. The one time American Idol host has agreed to become Kelly Ripa’s new co-host of Live. After months of guest hosts and speculation, the decision has finally been announced. Meanwhile. Seacrest, who is still producing Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and daily radio programming, had been pitch-hitting as guest host on occasion for Live with Kelly. With American Idol cancelled by FOX, the timing is perfect for Seacrest to be based out of New York.

VH1‘s ‘Dear Mama’ saw many beautiful mom’s out!

Kelly Rowland, Mary J. Blige, and Halle Berry were among the high-profile moms in attendance at the event, which celebrates the love of mothers. Hosted by Anthony Anderson and La La, the musical has performances from DJ Khaled, Robin Thicke, and more. Several of the talent in the ‘VH1’s Dear Mama’ airs on (Monday) at 10/9c.

TLC releases track titles for new CD

Two years after launching Kickstarter campaign to get funds for a new album, R&B group TLC will release their final album on June 30th.

They have kept it simple and title their last album “TLC”.
