Despite constantly running his mouth and making a number of controversial, divisive and some say downright bigoted comments during his campaign for the U.S. presidency, Republican Donald Trump is now in the running for a 2016 Nobel Peace Prize. (Close your mouth.)
Word comes from multiple outlets that a mystery person nominated the New York businessman for the esteemed honor. Yes, one more time, the honor of a 2016 Nobel Peace Prize. The nominator praised Trump for his “vigorous peace through strength ideology, used as a threat weapon of deterrence against radical Islam, ISIS, nuclear Iran and Communist China.”
Throughout his run for the GOP nomination, Trump has vowed to bomb ISIS and proposed a ban on Muslims entering the United States. He’s also promised to deport illegal immigrants out of the country–who he only puts a Mexican face on– and to build a wall across the southern border of the U.S. to keep Mexicans out (which he then clarified and said he’d get Mexican leaders to build that wall).
We want to know who the “mystery nominee” is. We really want to know. But in the meanwhile, let’s take a look at the other reported nominees. Among them are NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, Colombian peace negotiators, U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, Pope Francis and Greek islanders helping migrants. The nominee list closed on the first of this month. The award will be given in October.
