WATCH: Bride Who Gave Dad ‘Purity Certificate’ Speaks ‘I Wanted To Prove My Word’

Brelyn Bowman became the center of headlines this week after her decision to show her father she kept her promise to remain a virgin on her wedding day went viral. Bowman, 22, (formerly Freeman) presented her father, Pastor Michael Freeman, with a certificate signed by her doctor to prove that she was still a virgin when she married her now husband, gospel recording artist Tim Bowman.

Since then, Brelyn and Tim, 28 have received thousands upon thousands of comments– both positive and negative. The newlyweds told “ABC News” they were still in wedding bliss on their honeymoon in Dubai when her post began to make its way around the Internet.

Now, they are making their own rounds and sharing their story while promoting purity.

In their most recent televised interview, Tim and Brelyn were joined by her parents when they opened about their decision and why it was so important for her to give her father the certificate.

“I like to call my self the preacher of purity,” said Brelyn. “I wanted to prove my word to my father.”

As far as the negativity they’ve received, Tim said it’s all “empowering” as it has helped spark the conversation of sexual purity.
