People in Washington, DC, are already lining up to see the Pope on his historic first visit to the United States. By 5:00 a.m. Eastern, hundreds of people were waiting outside the White House in hopes of seeing Pope Francis. The Pontiff has arrived and plans to address about 15,000 people alongside President Obama on the South Lawn of the White House Wednesday morning. The President talked about the 70 million Catholics in the U.S. and cited the deep affection for the Pontiff around the world. After a busy day in DC with a scheduled meeting with the president in the Oval Office to talk various issues and celebrating Mass at Catholic University of America, the Pope will head to New York on Thursday and to Philadelphia—where many Hoosiers have gone to see him—for activities on Friday and Saturday.

The FBI is busy here in Indy. Have you noticed lately? Their latest investigation has the agency raiding an automotive dealership specializing in foreign cars at the dealer’s two locations. Agents raided Elite Imports Tuesday at 46th and Keystone Avenue and on Pendleton Pike leaving with boxes of evidence, files and other items. Customers say they’re not surprised. One customer, Chontae Lester, said she’s been having issues with the used car lot. Lester said, “They never answer my phone calls and I finally got one of their personal numbers (on the phone) and they were like, you can’t call me on this line, click.” Officials aren’t commenting on the target of the investigation.
IMPD is looking for ways to lower crime in the neighborhood near 40th Street and Boulevard Place near-by where a ten-year-old boy lost his life on Saturday. Police officers and members of the community got together Tuesday night for a meeting to brainstorm ideas. No arrest has been made so far in the death of DeShawn Swanson and the shooting of three others. Officials ask anyone with information to call 317-262-TIPS.
Metro Police are also searching on this Wednesday morning for a suspect who attempted to break into cars in a subdivision on the city’s southeast side. Officials say a Carmel police officer followed a van early this morning from the Pleasant Run Apartments to the Willow Lakes subdivision on southeast side. Police then say, according to Fox 59, two people from inside that van started breaking into cars. The officer called IMPD for backup and they attempted to stop the suspects. One fled the other was taken into custody. They say they know who they’re looking for.
An inmate at the Indiana Women’s Prison is dead from an “apparent suicide.” Officials say 19-year-old Princola Shields attempted suicide Monday afternoon and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital where she later died Tuesday. They haven’t provided more details. The “Indianapolis Star” is reporting at least two other people have died while in custody in local jails in recent weeks.
JOB FAIR TODAY: United Healthcare is filling 65 positions in the city. A job fair will be held today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the company’s headquarters on Woodland Drive. Many of the jobs are in customer service and sales, and insurance broker service. All of the positions will be based in Indianapolis.
Circle Centre Mall could be getting a $20 million facelift. “Indiana Business Journal” says Simon Property Group is proposing improvements that include new lighting and seating, along with a revamped food court and bathrooms. They’re also eyeing a new mall entrance on Georgia Street and upgrades to other mall entrances.
Officials at the statehouse are scheduled this morning to announce a plan to reduce the number of campus sexual assaults. It involves a new statewide organization to replace the former Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault. Six cases have already been reported this school year so far on the IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame campuses.
Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn is suing the co-creator of the hit television series “Empire” over comments Lee Daniels made about domestic violence. Daniels told “The Hollywood Reporter” that series star Terrence Howard, “ain’t done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn.” Howard has been repeatedly accused of domestic violence. FBI investigators say they have emails deleted from the private server Hillary Clinton used when she was Secretary of State. Bloomberg reports agents recovered those personal and work-related emails. The Democratic presidential front-runner claimed she had deleted thousands of emails because they were merely about personal matters.
Donald Trump is not fielding questions about President Obama’s birthplace. He refused to swing at what “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert called a “big fat meatball” question during his appearance Tuesday night. When Colbert asked the billionaire real estate developer if Obama was born in the U.S., Trump said, “I don’t talk about that anymore.”
The super PAC supporting presidential candidate Ben Carson says it’s seeing a big jump in fundraising since Sunday. That’s when the Republican hopeful told NBC’s “Meet the Press” he wouldn’t advocate having a Muslim elected as President. A super PAC official says the 2016 Committee emailed supporters after Carson’s appearance, and the response has been overwhelming.
The pharmaceutical company that dramatically raised the price of a drug used by AIDS and cancer patients is having a change of heart. Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli said Tuesday they will substantially drop the price of Daraprim after getting complaints from medical groups and others. Turing Pharmaceuticals made headlines earlier this week when it announced it was raising the price of the drug to $750 per pill so it could make a profit on the medication. Before Turing purchased the patent on the drug last month, one tablet cost just over $13. So that’s an increase of about $22,110 for a one-month supply.
The head of Volkswagen is now stepping down. Chief Executive Officer Martin Winterkorn announced his resignation today amidst a scandal brewing at the German automaker. Volkswagen’s U.S. leader admits the company “totally screwed up” by using software that allowed its diesel vehicles to cheat on emissions tests. Speaking in New York, VW U.S. head Michael Horn admitted that the automaker was dishonest with both customers and the Environmental Protection Agency. He also vowed to fix the software and is setting aside over $7 billion to deal with the issue. The EPA penalty against VW could be up to $18 billion.
Baseball legend Yogi Berra has died. Berra’s museum released a statement saying the New York Yankee icon died last night at the age of 90. Berra spent 18 of his 19 seasons with the Yankees. He won three American League MVP awards and 10 World Series championships during his playing days.
The Indiana Fever are in action this evening—making their next move in the WNBA playoffs. The ladies take on the New York Liberty who pulled out a 79-74 win over the Washington Mystics Tuesday night to earn a date with the Fever. The best-of-three Eastern Finals finals get underway at 7:00 p.m. Eastern tonight in New York. Goooo Fever!
Today marks the autumnal equinox, or the first day of fall. As the days get shorter ahead of winter, the dropping temperatures mean leaves on some trees are starting to change from green to shades of yellow and red before they’re shed altogether. Other trees may lose their leaves before they change color.

Rapper/Actor Snoop Dogg is launching an online business with a marijuana focus, called “Merry Jane. ” The now, media-tech mogul, introduced the project Monday with co-founder Ted Chung in San Francisco. Snoop Dogg says Merry Jane will be a lifestyle and information hub for anyone interested in marijuana. A video promoting the new media platform calls Merry Jane a crossroads of pot culture, business, politics and health. The platform launches in October.
