You may have peeped a whole body vibration machine in your local gym yet had no clue how this shaky platform worked. Well you can sit, stand, or lie on these bad boys all in the name of fitness. By performing traditional exercises on these vibrating platforms energy is transmitted into your body (no – it’s not like getting shocked) therefore forcing your muscles to contract and relax dozens of times each second.
Simply put, the shaky base beneath you makes your muscles think you’re falling, so in turn your natural “stress reflex” kicks in. Read, you have to work harder to keep your balance and form intact. The amplitude is measured in millimeters (mm) and refers to the extent of the vertical displacement of the platform during vibrations. The higher the frequency and amplitude, the greater the intensity and work on the muscles.
