First lady Michelle Obama’s previously taped appearance on Good Morning America aired today with the two women, looking sleek in teal and coral sheaths, talking healthy recipes, trendy bangs and coping with a rapidly growing teenager.
Mrs. O went to New York last week to tape the interview; she was one of Roberts’ first big gets since she returned from sick leave and months of battling cancer and the consequences.
The first lady is kicking off the third year of Let’s Move!, her signature campaign to fight childhood obesity and promote healthy eating, so part of the appearance involved a cooking segment with chef Marcus Samuelsson to demonstrate some of her suggested healthy dishes and recipes.
Today, also as part of Let’s Move!, she announced a collaboration with five major media companies and Pinterest to make it easier for families to access online thousands of recipes that meet federal guidelines for nutrition. More than 3,000 recipes have been identified across 18 websites, and nearly 1,000 have been collected on a new Pinterest page, providing a one-stop-shop for cooks, the White House said.
On Friday during her interview, Roberts couldn’t resist raising the most “trend-setting” topic with FLOTUS — her new bangs. (This was before she did a goofy dance sketch with Jimmy Fallon on Late Night on Friday and before she got to open the envelope announcing the best-picture Oscar winner at the White House Sunday night).
Roberts showed a picture of herself in a new wig with bangs. She said she chose back in December but hasn’t worn it because, she joked, she didn’t want to look like she was imitating the first lady, who got her bangs and new bob cut in January.

“There’s nothing like the look on his face when Malia gets dressed up for a party and walks past him and you can see his face drop a little bit,” she joked. “The gray in his hair people think it’s his job — it’s his children.”
