The cost of having a turkey at your Thanksgiving dinner will gobble a little more of your pocket change this year. According to the American Farm Bureau, the average cost of dinner is $49.48, that’s 28 cents up from last year’s $49.20. That’s a 3 percent increase; most of which comes from the turkey.

But don’t fret! You may not even feel the increase at all.

“Most Americans will pay about the same as last year at the grocery store for a turkey and all the trimmings,” said John Anderson, AFBF’s deputy chief economist. “A slight increase in demand for turkey is responsible for the moderate price increase our shoppers reported for the bird.”

Will you be switching to ham this year?
