While making a stop in Newark, NJ for his “Let Me Explain” tour, funny guy Kevin Hart joined with Newark mayor Cory Booker to help Hurricane Sandy victims.

Hart got a look firsthand of the damages and tragedy that struck when he took a tour of the city, one of the worst areas hit by the super storm.

He started at the Operations Center with City of Newark Business Administrator Julien Neals.

Neals says, “After Sandy, we went into what we refer to as a level 2 activation.  We brought in crisis leaders from the city’s core resource departments to help provide immediate assistance.”

Hart donated $50,000 to Newark and threw in another $50,000 in water from Vitamin Water, gift cards, water and outerwear.

“This was a shocking reality for me.  I commend you all for pulling together this impressive operation and I’m so happy to be of service,” said the Philly  native. “I’m blessed; and to be able to help these families obtain the basic necessities that they need is both humbling and uplifting.”

Mayor Booker expressed his appreciation for Hart, “We are blown away by you wanting to be here, and are thankful for your generosity.  It has truly boosted our spirits.”

Booker is no stranger to giving back to the community of Newark. He opened his home to residents who didn’t have power and got hundreds of free hot pockets to feed residents.

And of course no one can forget about when he rescued a woman from a burning home this past April and when a blizzard hit Newark in 2010 Booker shoveled residents driveways.
