Viola Davis is preparing to make her to return to the big screen in Won’t Back Down. The actress usually plays thought-provoking roles in movies like The Help and this time is no different. She portrays a school teacher working with a concerned mother (Maggie Gyllenhaal) to improve a struggling elementary school after their special needs children do not get into a charter school.

Black Enterprise Reports:

The film focuses on the parent trigger law, which was passed in 2010. The law allows parents to petition to change a schools curriculum and staff, or turn it into a charter school if it is under performing.

The film, which is said to be based on true events, has garnered attention from critics because it is believed to be a veiled anti-teacher and anti-union film.

Because of the controversy, many public school teachers are threatening to boycott the movie. Despite critics Viola Davis won’t back down. The film hits theaters Sept 28.
