Make a List
-
Write a list of your priorities. First your stated priorities, then upon closer examination, your actual priorities. If you list your kids as priority one but haven’t seen them for a week, it’s possible you’re not really balancing your work and life. Look at what you could change to put what’s first first.
Manage Your Time
-
Write down how you spend your time for a week: How much you spend at work, how much at home, with the family, at the gym, on a favorite hobby. Change your activities to make more room for what’s important. Try to make housework more efficient; work out when it doesn’t interfere with family time; quit your job as chairman of the school committee. Cut out what can be cut and organize what’s left.
Be Present
-
Being present means being at work when you’re at work and at home when you’re at home. This takes some practice. Many people’s thoughts drift to work when home and vice versa. You’ll have to keep bringing your thoughts back to the moment until it becomes easy.
Seek Health
-
The healthier you are, the more energy you’ll have, the more you’ll be able to get done. And the less you’ll feel like you’re behind in every area of your life. Exercise regularly, eat well, put everything aside for a good night’s sleep, drink a lot of water.
