Here’s another BANGER that I always look forward to featuring in the ’12 O’ Clock Lunchtime Mix’.
D-Train’s ‘You’re The One For Me’ has one of the most insistent basslines AND keyboard parts EVER EVER EVER! Lemme tell ya, when that baseline bubbles in for the intro, you know you’re in for some heavy funk. This record tore up clubs for years and it STILL works, anchored by one of the greatest pairings of vocals and grooves of the era.
D-Train was the name of the group, as well as the singer (kinda like ‘Sade’); the other cat in the group was Hubert Eaves III, who went on to join Mtume. D-Train went on to record some strong follow-ups to ‘You’re The One For Me’, including ‘Music’ and a cover of Dionne Warwick’s ‘Walk On By’ and charted again with ‘Something’s On Your Mind’, but to this day, ‘You’re The One For Me’ remains their most well-known and beloved song.
You can hear this and many more of ‘Rusty’s Golden Dusties’ every Monday-Thursday at noon on 106.7 WTLC. I get in the mix, Tony Lamont rocks the mic, and we have a BALL. Tune in cuz we promise to give you the greatest grooves we can every day on the ’12 O’ Clock Lunchtime Mix’
