As tax season comes to a close, Uncle Sam seems to have had his team of watchdogs out on the prowl to collect debt from many U.S. citizens.
Unfortunately, one well-known public figure reportedly owes more than $2 million in taxes.
According to the Detroit News, the IRS filed a $2,159,204 lien against one of Steve Harvey‘s enterprises, Wonder Love Inc., on March 8.
The news came as a surprise to the media maverick, who is listed as the company’s president. He’s sent his legal team to settle the claim.
“He’s certainly unable to give any comment,” his entertainment lawyer, Ricky Anderson, told the newspaper. “He’s got competent tax counsel in Chicago that handles all of his tax affairs.”
When reached this afternoon for comment, Harvey exclusively told Black Voices: “Even though I’m not allowed to say anything concerning this tax matter…my lawyers are addressing any and all matters, with the attention that this matter deserves.”
“My foundation work is my mission toward securing a brighter future for the young men in our communities…and with God’s help that work will succeed,” Harvey continued.
“I want to thank the well-wishers and fans for their support, and rest assured this is being handled professionally,” he concluded.
In other news, the mogul is gearing up to bring his long-running syndicated radio show, ‘The Steve Harvey Show,’ to BET’s spin-off network, Centric. ‘The Steve Harvey Project,’ which will feature the New York Times best-selling author offering dating advice in addition to celebrity interviews, is set to debut on the channel later this year.
Before then, the ‘Original Kings of Comedy’ star will host a fundraising gala honoring two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and other inspiring community leaders, in New York on May 3.
