It’s being recommended that children between the ages of nine and eleven be screened for high cholesterol.  Doctors with the American Academy of Pediatrics say it’s best to screen early due to the growing epidemic of obesity.  Additionally, the AAP recommends children be tested if their parents or grandparents have suffered from a heart attack or stroke.  Dallas resident Sangita Rana was shocked to learn that her nine-year-old son Arnav’s cholesterol levels were so high that he needed medication.  Arnav’s pediatrician said genetics are the main reason for high cholesterol in his age group.  Arnav’s father also has high cholesterol and suffered from a heart attack at the age of 33.
