An education icon in the Indianapolis community and the wife of a legendary coach has died. Betty Crowe was the wife of basketball coach Ray Crowe when he led the Crispus Attucks Tigers to a 60-to-1 record and groundbreaking back-to-back state titles in 1955 and 1956. She was a proud Attucks graduate in the class of 1948. She loved and served the Attucks Alumni Association throughout the years and was recently featured along with other Attucks’ alums in the documentary, “Attucks: The School That Opened A City.” Crowe was a dedicated Indianapolis Public Schools teacher and counselor for 32 years before her retirement in 1995. She was a fun-loving community servant, serving in many organizations and on several non-profit boards.
The community will gather with family and friends at Crowe’s memorial on Saturday, November 5, at Flanner and Buchannan-Washington Park North Funeral Home in the 2700 block of Kessler Blvd. West Drive, at 10 a.m. with a ‘Celebration of Life’ service beginning at Noon.
Betty Crowe died on Sunday the October 30, 2016 at age 85.
