Persons with outstanding warrants for minor felonies and/or misdemeanors here and Marion County will have a chance to have their warrants reviewed and potentially resolved instead of being arrested, today… during an event called Operation Safe Surrender. It’s a three-day event that got underway at 9 a.m. this morning and runs until 8 p.m. this evening at what organizers are calling a safe space… Messiah Missionary Baptist Church in the 5600 block of East 38th Street. This again is for persons with level 6 felonies and misdemeanors so you can get a fresh start. Attorney General Loretta Lynch says Indianapolis does a great job of taking care of its officers. Lynch met with officers and IMPD commanders Wednesday to praise them for the department’s safety and wellness programs.  She said their programs may become a model for the nation.

They may not be nice, but the emails sent to Indiana Republican delegates aren’t criminal. The Indiana State Police say they reviewed the threatening emails and say they’re covered by laws governing political speech. The emails imply trouble or accountability for Indiana Republicans who may vote against Donald Trump.  Trump has now opened two offices here in Indiana ahead of May’s primary.

ISIS is threatening a congressman and a top aide to Hillary Clinton. A publication linked to the terrorist group put out a list of Western Muslims that includes Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison and Clinton aide Huma Abedin. Ellison is the first Muslim elected to Congress and he serves along with our own congressman from Indianapolis, who is also Muslim, Andre Carson. He said being included on the ISIS list means he’s “fighting for things like justice, tolerance, and a more inclusive world.”

A coroner in New Orleans says former NFL player Will Smith was shot eight times during a confrontation Saturday night.  Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse says an autopsy found that Smith was shot seven times in the back and once in the chest. He was shot in New Orleans’ Lower Garden District after a confrontation with Cardell Hayes outside their SUVs. Hayes was arrested at the scene and has been charged with second-degree murder.

The NBA’s Kobe Bryant era is over.  The Los Angeles Lakers superstar’s final game was more than memorable.  Bryant poured in 60 points at the STAPLES Center last night to lead L.A. in a come-from-behind win over the Utah Jazz.  While Bryant was ending his historic 20-year career, the Golden State Warriors also made NBA history.  The Warriors broke the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ single-season wins record with a 125-104 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

And let’s hear it for our Pacers in their final season regular season game. They handled their biz on the road beating the Milwaukee Bucks, 97-92.

The Indianapolis Indians host the Columbus Clippers at 7:05 p.m. downtown at Victory Field for the Indians’ home season opener tonight.
