It seems as if some people are tired of Donald Trump‘s stronghold in the Presidential race. The current frontrunner for the Republican party’s nomination had to cancel a recent rally in Chicago due to thousands of people protesting his appearance.
“We stopped Trump” was chanted outside of the University of Chicago after the reality star and real estate mogul confirmed that he would not be speaking on the evening of Friday, March 11th.
The protestors were met retaliation by Trump supporters and several fist fights broke out amongst the two groups.
Trump who isn’t exactly known for his moral compass claims that postponing the rally was in the best interest of his supporters. “I think we made the right move” he told MSNBC, “I didn’t want to see anybody get hurt,” added Trump.
Unfortunately, according to CNN, several people have been detained by Chicago police for inciting altercations outside of the event.
Trump’s recent rallied have been marred with controversy as videos of African American attendees being assaulted have gone viral.
Dozens of protestors tried to shut down a Trump rally in St. Louis and were forcefully removed. “They’re allowed to get up and interrupt us horribly and we have to be very, very gentle,” he said condescendingly. “They can swing and hit people, but if we hit them back it’s a terrible, terrible thing, right?”
Trump’s campaign has since released a statement that he plans to reschedule the Chicago rally at a later time.
“Mr. Trump just arrived in Chicago and after meeting with law enforcement has determined that for the safety of all of the tens of thousands of people that have gathered in and around the arena, tonight’s rally will be postponed to another date,” the campaign said in a statement. “Thank you very much for your attendance and please go in peace.”
