“Straight Outta Compton,” “Empire” and Michael B. Jordan are the big winners at the NAACP Image Awards.  The NWA biopic took the award for Outstanding Motion Picture, while O’Shea Jackson, Jr. got the best supporting actor nod for portraying his father, Ice Cube in the film.  It was a big night for actor Michael B. Jordan who not only won best actor for his title role in “Creed,” but was also named Entertainer of the Year.

“Empire” cleaned up in the television categories.  The Fox drama won for Outstanding Drama Series, while stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson took home best acting honors.  Friday night’s ceremony in Pasadena held added meaning with the current Oscar controversy over lack of diversity.
