Essence and EBONY have always been go-to magazines for Black women, but outside of those two publications, there is a lack of diversity on newsstands. A new project is looking to change that. Hannah, a bi-annual magazine, was designed to highlight and celebrate Black women. Created by Qimmah Saafir, Hannah will give Black women a platform to share their experiences. “I just started to realize that the publications that I loved weren’t meant for me or weren’t necessarily concerned with representing me or my demographic or what I like,” said Saafir. “I feel like we deserve to have diversity within our own community — representing the different types of us.” Saafir has launched a fundraising campaign to bring the idea to fruition. So far, she’s raised $14,000 out of her $30,000 goal. Read more.


“Soul Food” Sequel Is On The Way

Prepare yourselves for some ’90s nostalgia. According to reports, 20th Century Fox is planning to create a sequel to the 1997 movie Soul Food. Titled More Soul Food, the film will be centered around the second generation of the family and be produced by State Street Productions in collaboration with Tracey Edmonds and Babyface Edmonds. George Tillman Jr. and Nathan Skulnik will pen the script. The original movie, which came out 18 years ago, was written and directed by Tillman and grossed over $42 million. Read more.


Nicki Minaj to Produce Show About Her Upbringing

Rapstress Nicki Minaj has made her mark in the realm of music and dabbled in both the fashion and beauty industries. Her next venture will be in television. Minaj is set to executive produce a comedy series for ABC Family that will focus on her upbringing in Queens, New York. “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” she said in an interview. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.” Filming for the pilot is slated to begin later this year.
