Sunday(Aug.9) marks the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. His death at the hands of a white Ferguson police officer sparked unrest in the St. Louis suburb and protests across the country. To mark the date of Brown’s death on Sunday, civil rights activists and community leaders have organized marches and concerts to remember Brown’s life. Amid the activities there will also be a moment of silence at midday Sunday on the street where Brown was killed.
Michael Brown’s death gave rise to the “Black Lives Matter” movement and illuminated the tensions between minority communities and police.
