Amy Schumer has been creating a lot of buzz lately but it may not be in the way she was hoping for, considering she is starring in the movie “Trainwreck out July 17th.  Schumer was recently asked by twitter user, Martine Joelle “What is your responsibility/value system as a storyteller? I really want to understand yr thinking.”  Joelle was specifically referring to a joke previously told by Schumer that said, “I used to date Hispanic guys, but now I prefer consensual.”  Schumer responded with the following, “I wrote this joke 2 years ago. I used to do a lot of dumb jokes like this. I used to play a dumb white girl character on stage. I still do sometimes. Once I realized I had more eyes and ears on me and had an influence I stopped telling jokes like that onstage, I am evolving as any artist. I am taking responsibility and I hope I haven’t hurt anyone. And I apologize if I did.”

This isn’t the first time Schumer has been under fire for racial comedy.  The Gaurdian wrote an article about Schumer’s comedy and stated, “Schumer has a shockingly large blind spot around race.”  In April, Schumer released a music video titled “Milk Milk Lemonade,” where she rapped about the different functions of body parts.  The video perpetuated stereotypes by showing black women twerking around her.  Schumer commented on the article written by The Gaurdian stating, “I will joke about things you like, and I will joke about things you aren’t comfortable with. And that’s OK.”
