Jussie Smollett w Taraji P HensonJussie Smollett is being frank about the impact his role as a gay musician on Fox’s “Empire” has already positively had others. Smollett spoke with E! Online and told them that after the second episode, he got a letter from a fan who told him how his character, Jamal, “gave him the courage to come out to his parents.”  Jussie explained that the letter was especially touching because they were only two episodes into the season. He says it’s an “honor” to make that sort of impact on someone’s life. Jussie’s “Empire” role has also caught the eyes of a number of big names in the music industry. At a recent Grammy after party, L.A. Reid, Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy approached him about the role.

“Empire” can be seen locally on Fox 59 at 9 p.m. Eastern.
