The accolades keep coming for Common and John Legend as they are building on their recent Golden Globe win for their duet “Glory” from the film “Selma.” At the 20th Critics’ Choice Awards Thursday, Common accepted the Best Song award and that when he and Legend made the song, they did in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Common also reflected on how “Selma” director Ava DuVernay challenged him and John. Apparently, after listening to the first draft of the track she said it needed to be bigger, telling them she wanted something compared to the ensemble hit “We Are the World.” The rapper also gave a shout out to actor David Oyelowo, who played Dr. King in the film. He called David’s performance “incredible.” To top it off he dedicated the trophy to his late father and recalled his last words to him.

On Thursday, Common and John Legend also received an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category.
