The debut of the new Fox hip-hop drama “Empire” will get some help from “American Idol.” The network has announced that the Lee Daniels-directed drama will premiere on January 7th, just after the one-hour season premiere of “Idol’s” 14th season. The first chapter of “Empire” is set to air with limited commercial interruption. The series stars Terrence Howard as Lucious Lyon, an ailing music mogul and the head of Empire Entertainment. Taraji P. Henson and Gabourey Sidibe also star in the series. “Empire” boasts music from hit-making producer Timbaland.
