Does your date seem to have practiced stories? It is natural in the first couple of dates for there to be some awkwardness as you get to know your date. If your date seems too practiced and smooth, it might be because he is practiced and smooth. He is showing you a “mask” — not the real man.

  • Step 2

Does your date change his response when he doesn’t get the response from you he wants. If your date is watching your reactions so closely that he changes his story to get a better response from you, he might be manipulating.

  • Step 3

Does your date get too close too quickly? After 2 dates is he talking about taking a trip together? After 2 weeks, is he talking about moving in together? It is normal for it to take months to get to know another person. You can’t possibly know someone in just a few hours. If he gets too serious too quickly, something is wrong.

  • Step 4

Does your date make pity plays? Does he mention his past girlfriend in a way that makes you feel sorry for him? Does he talk about how mistreated he is at work? Is he misunderstood by his family? Did an ex take advantage of him? An advanced technique is to appear at first to be taking responsibility for what went wrong in his last relationship, only to keep talking and blame in on his ex girlfriend by the end of his story. If your date continuously pulls the pity play, something is wrong.

  • Step 5

If your date seems too good to be true, he probably is.

  • Step 6

If your date says you make him feel so great…be cautious. If he makes you responsible for his happiness, you will also be responsible when he doesn’t feel happy.
