D’Angelo is the latest artist signing on for the summer salute to the Godfather of Soul. “Get On Up: A James Brown Celebration” will be taking place on August 13th at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. other artists announced are, Aloe Blacc, Bettye LaVette and Angelique Kidjo. Also in the lineup is the James Brown Alumni Band featuring Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley. Grammy-winning jazz bassist Christian McBride will preside over the show as the music director. Tickets for the concert go on sale May 4th.
And before the tribute concert, the late James Brown will be immortalized in the biopic “Get On Up.” Chadwick Boseman(“42”) will take on the role of Brown. The film also stars Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Jill Scott and Nelsan Ellis. “Get On Up” hits theaters on August 1st.
