Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina and her new husband Nick Gordon have finally opened up about married life for the first time since announcing they jumped the broom.

The couple sat down for their first TV interview together as man and wife, and revealed the criticism about their romance only served to draw them closer.

Bobbi and Nick tell Extra, Critics and family members were turned off by the idea of the pair becoming a married couple – because they grew up as brother and sister.

Whitney informally adopted Gordon when he was a kid because he was going through a tough time at home. He says,

“(The criticism) put a fire in us… The critics can say whatever they want to say… It’s like we have a force field and that s**t’s just bouncing off of it.”

But Gordon insists the romance between him and Brown didn’t blossom until after her mother’s death in 2012. He reveals,

“We were young. Krissy looked at me as an older brother, and I looked at her as a little sister and she (Houston) treated me like she gave birth to me. She treated me like a son. Excuse me for saying this, but she treated me better than my birth mother. I owe everything to her.”

“She made me promise several times to look after Krissy… and, Mom, I will never ever, ever break that promise.”

He adds, “She wanted this. This is something she wanted to see.”

The couple also used the interview to clear up reports suggesting the wedding news has caused a rift between Bobbi Kristina and her maternal grandmother Cissy Houston, insisting the Cissy gave the couple her blessing after initially urging her granddaughter not to rush into marriage. Brown says,

“She told both of us that she loved us very, very, very much, and Nick came up and he said, ‘Grandma, I want to marry her. Is it OK? I need your blessing to do this. If I don’t have your blessing, I won’t feel right.’ She looked at him and she smiled… very wide and said, ‘Yes, son, you have my blessing’.”

And the new bride admits she has also patched up another tattered relationship with her father, Bobby Brown, adding,

“We have a relationship. It’s a good one right now. At a point in time, we didn’t even have that… I love my father more than anything.”
