When I think of my favorite shows growing up — the shows that really understood me, made me laugh and taught me something along the way — I think of BET’s old lineup. It definitely feels nostalgic now, but once upon a time BET was my go-to network for all of my entertainment needs.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s still some shows I enjoy today like Real Husbands of Hollywood and The Game, but there’s just something about old-school ComicView and Free and AJ that I can’t let go of.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane of 5 BET shows that we miss, and a few that deserve a second chance.

1. Rap City: Tha Basement

Rap City: Tha Basement was more than just a freestyle rap show. It brought hip-hop and urban culture from around the country into our homes everyday. Whether you were a mainstream or underground artist, from the West Coast or East Coast, male or female, Rap City was diverse and it gave talent it’s time to shine. With its two-hour time slot, Rap City was proof that BET once focused its programming on authentic, musical-based content.
