People say that the hardest person to get a gift for is the person you most care about. And now that Christmas is almost here, the challenge once again is to get the perfect present for HIM- whether he’s your best friend, boyfriend or husband.

Keep in mind that Christmas is not about expensive gifts; you don’t have to spend a fortune to make him happy this holiday season. Since you know this person well, you’ll have lots of clues about what to give him this Christmas. You can directly ask him what he wants for Christmas, but usually guys don’t have an answer to that so it really depends on your take.

Here are some ideas and suggestions that can help you pick out the perfect present for him:

Listen and observe

You’ve probably gone to the mall with him many times this year. Is there a time when he randomly mentioned something that he wanted or found nice while going through the stores? It may be a pair of shoes or something simple like the new CD of his favorite band. Surprising him with something he wants will mean a lot to him.

Give him something useful

Men don’t go out shopping as much as women.  If men do, they usually just buy the one thing that they came to the store for, and it’s usually something they need to use. Men are generally practical – they like gifts that they can actually use and not something they can put on display. Get him a couple of classic ties, a pair of socks, a new wallet or the like. If you give him a gift he can use every day, he will be constantly reminded of you.

Consider his personality

What kind of a person is he – laid back or adventurous? Is he a soccer, baseball or basketball fan? Is he a foodie, a bookworm or a movie buff? If you can answer these questions then use them to your advantage. Guys would always appreciate presents related to something they adore. For example, if he’s into basketball you can try giving him a collector’s item of his favorite player like a figurine or a jersey. If he’s more of a stay-home kind of guy, you can try and find a limited edition copy of his favorite book or movie.

Giving him simple yet meaningful gifts will let him know that you care for him. Men don’t need luxury to be happy. After all, it’s the thought that counts.
