If you loved the original 1989 version of “Steel Magnolias” with Shirley McLaine and Julia Roberts, you should catch the all-Black remake this weekend on Lifetime. Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Phylicia Rashad and Alfre Woodward take their stab at remaking a classic film. Ava Duvernay’s poignant “I Will Follow” is on BET, in case you didn’t see the movie from the first Black female director to win at Sundance. Carlina White’s real-life story gets its dramatized turn on Lifetime this weekend as well. If you choose to go out, “Taken 2” is in theaters and Anthony Hamilton and Mint Condition are both on the road.

“Get Him to The Greek” at 7:30 p.m. on Comedy Central

Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and Diddy star in the comedy about a young music executive charged with getting a bratty rock star to a show on time.

“Abducted: The Carlina White Story”

The snatched from the headlines story of an adult who figures out that she was taken as a child and raised by her abductor. Keke Palmer and Anjanue Ellis star.

Sunday, October 7

“Steel Magnolias” at 9 p.m. on Lifetime

The all-black remake of the beloved 1989 movie starring Shirley McLaine, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts gets a new retelling with Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Alfre Woodward, and Phylicia Rashad.

“Sunday Night Football” on NBC at 8:20 p.m.

The Chargers face the Saints in the game that may establish a new NFL record for Saints QB Drew Brees. He can equal or surpass the record for consecutive touchdown throws this game, but he may be looking more to put up a W as the Saints remain winless so far.
