  • Go out with and visit family and friends on a regular basis. Living alone can cause you to become lonely and depressed because of the lack of social interaction. Surround yourself with family and friends at least once a week to achieve a balance between being alone and spending time with others.

  • Join a group or organization related to something in which you are interested. For instance, if you enjoy reading, join a book club. If you enjoy sports, go out to sporting events, even if you go alone. Participating in hobbies you love can keep you happier.

  • Adopt a pet if you begin to feel lonely in your home. A dog or cat can provide you with a companionship similar, yet different, from that of a roommate.

  • Prepare your favorite foods on a regular basis. Remind yourself that when you live with someone else, you also have to take his preferences into consideration and you may not be able to eat your favorite foods as often. Focus on the positives of living alone.

  • Surround yourself with the things you love to create your own personal space throughout your home. Decorate your living space whichever way strikes your interest. If you love a specific type of decor, indulge in pieces that fit that theme. When you live alone, you are free to decorate any way you want without worrying about whether someone else likes it.
