Who knew? The official 2012 theme for Black History Month is “Black Women in American Culture and History.” You certainly wouldn’t know it by the TV programming this weekend, the first of Black History Month, one rife with drama, action – and more drama and action.

Okay, maybe there is a connection. Legendary actress Cicely Tyson, who’s always worth celebrating, narrates the Paul Robeson Award-winning film “Up from the Bottoms: The Search for the American Dream,” airing on PBS. The 2009 documentary tells the story of the massive migration of African-Americans from the rural south to the prosperous north during the World War II years and beyond.
