(Los Angeles, CA)  —  “The Descendants” is ascending to the top of the crop at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.  The film was named Best Motion Picture in the drama category at Sunday night’s star-studded awards ceremony.  “Descendants” star George Clooney was named Best Actor in a Drama and Meryl Streep took the Best Actress-Drama Golden Globe for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.”  The black-and-white silent film “The Artist” took the top prize in the film category for Best Comedy Musical.  In the television categories, Showtime’s “Homeland” was named Best Drama, while ABC’s “Modern Family” took the category for Best TV Comedy. 

Presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes honor the best in film and television each year.  NBC aired the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
