- Spend quality time with your partner alone. If you have children, arrange a babysitter or a member of your family to look after them for a couple of hours at least once or twice a week
- Don’t keep secrets from each other to increase your chances of rebuilding a trusting relationship again
- Listen and communicate openly and respectfully to nurture and develop a loving relationship
- Be honest to encourage a safe environment where it is safe to express your feelings and thoughts
- Be there for them especially in times of grief, sadness, fear and insecurity
- Be sincere with your praise, encouragement, support and love.
- Stay calm in potentially volatile situations and take time out during the healing process, particularly when your partner’s feelings for you will most likely ebb and flow
- Be patient with your partner because healing will take time
- Attend relationship therapy or counselling to confirm and affirm your committment to changing your behaviour
- Give your partner lots of space if they need time out
