President Obama, who has been accused of avoiding racial issues, jumped into the lion’s mouth Saturday when he made an unannounced appearance at the Congressional Black Caucus’ annual Washington conference and called on his most loyal constituents to resist plans to change the course his administration has set for the nation.

With new commitments of support from Sens. George Voinovich (R-OH) and George LeMieux (R-FL), President Obama said “we are finally on the verge of passing a small business-jobs bill that will cut taxes and provide loans for millions of small business owners across America.”

President Obama exhorted a Florida minister Thursday to “listen to those better angels” and call off his plan to engage in a Koran-burning protest this weekend.
