R&B star Ne-Yo, who is currently promoting two singles (“Champagne Life” and “Beautiful Monster”), off his upcoming fourth studio album Libra Scale, is clearing up the meaning behind Miss Independent, since people always mistake his meaning.

“Miss Independent…see people get that misconstrued, they think I’m talking about a girl that I’m dating or a girl that I’m looking for,” Ne-Yo tells Singersroom. “Miss Independent is my mom, Miss Independent is my aunt, Miss Independent is the women that I grew up around that showed me what the difference between a woman and a lady is.”

As far as taking those qualities and finding the woman of his dreams, Ne-Yo says, “Ultimately that is the woman that I was looking for, hec what everybody is looking for. A woman who understand what it is to want a man… need a man, but not from a financial standpoint. She’s self-sufficient…she can take care of herself.”

Adding, “Just in case things don’t work out between you and her, she’s not hitting you up for money because she got her out.”

We are not sure if the mother of NeYo’s unborn child is his Miss Independent but he seems excited and somewhat nervous about the child coming in January.

“I’m trying to figure out what the hell kind of father I’m going to be,” Ne-Yo tells Singersroom. “I meant I’m 30 years old, so it’s absolute time for me to have a kid but at the same time, in a lot of ways I still view myself as a kid. So it’s difficult to see me trying to discipline a child. But I know that I got my mom in my corner if there is a question I just can’t answer. But at the same time I’m not going to let my mom raise my kid. Imma figure it out…I’m a little worried but I have the right people in my corner to where I think ultimately I’m going to be ok.
