INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – UPDATE: City leaders say police have captured a 17-year-old man suspected of shooting several people Saturday night following an event at the Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard announced the arrest at a news conference Monday afternoon.

Metro Police say they tracked down the suspect, 17-year-old Shamus Patton, at an apartment complex Monday. Police say they were alerted to Patton’s whereabouts from a tipster.

Police earlier identified Patton as the main suspect responsible for at least one of Saturday night’s three incidents.

Police say Patton has a juvenile crime record.

Trouble began around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when the first shots rang out on Maryland Street between Meridian and Illinois Streets. According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Lt. Jeff Duhammel, five people were found shot at that location and two others were found in another location, after running from the scene.

Then just before midnight, IMPD officers responded to another shooting, bringing the total of injured to nine.
