ESPN Parts Ways with Shannon Sharpe After Lawsuit Settlement
It’s official—Shannon Sharpe and ESPN have gone their separate ways.
The Hall of Famer and First Take co-host was let go by the network following news that he reached a settlement in a sexual assault lawsuit filed earlier this year. Sharpe has denied the allegations, but after settling for an undisclosed amount, ESPN made the call to part ways.
It’s a major move, considering Sharpe was one of the most visible and viral faces on the network. But true to form, Shannon isn’t hiding. He took to social media to let folks know he’ll address everything on Monday.
Right now, he says his focus is on celebrating his big brother, Sterling Sharpe, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver, who’s finally being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It’s a major family moment, and Shannon made it clear this week is about Sterling’s long-overdue flowers.
While this chapter with ESPN may be closing, Sharpe isn’t slowing down. He still runs his own podcast network and continues to dominate on platforms where he controls the mic.
This move reflects a larger trend in the industry: when controversy hits, even top talent can find themselves on the outside looking in. But if you know Shannon Sharpe, you know this isn’t the end, it’s just another pivot.
Stay tuned for Monday. He’s got more to say.
