Uber’s New Women Preferences Feature has Arrived
Sometimes innovation looks like common sense. Uber’s new Women Preferences feature is just that—smart, timely, and long overdue.
With this new option, women riders can now match only with women drivers. Likewise, women drivers can choose to pick up only women passengers. The goal? A safer, more comfortable experience.
The pilot is currently rolling out in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit. And if all goes well, more cities are expected to follow.
This news hits especially close to home. We still feel the loss of Chanti Dixon, a 30-year-old Black woman from Indianapolis. She was tragically killed by her Uber driver after reportedly rejecting his advances. Her story is heartbreaking—and it’s why this new safety feature matters so much.
Uber’s Women Preferences feature gives us something we haven’t had enough of: choice and peace of mind. Whether heading to work, a night out, or home after a long day, that added layer of safety means everything.
Lyft has also introduced a similar service called Women+ Connect, showing that the industry is starting to listen. Female rideshare drivers have long shared stories of uncomfortable rides, harassment, and safety concerns.
Now, this small checkbox could mean big change.
We deserve to feel safe—period. Uber’s Women Preferences feature isn’t a perfect solution, but it’s progress.
So here’s to safer rides, stronger choices, and women putting their well-being first.
