YOU CAN'T STOP THE REVOLUTION STOP HB285

Source: DONT S.L.E.E.P.

@kwellscomm  TLCNaptown.com News & Sports  —

Activists and concerned citizens are meeting up Wednesday to protest proposed legislation moving through the statehouse during this session. They want to stop ‘Senate Bill 285’ and ask you to join them this afternoon at the statehouse to voice your concerns. SB 285 was authored by Republican Senator Jim Tomes, of District 49, which requires certain public officials to remove protesters or any gathering of 10 or more people that may block traffic “by any means necessary.” Opponents say it’s a proposal designed to intimidate citizens who are exercising their right to free speech. They’re protesting its passage because they believe “this is how those in power will criminalize any resistance to their governance.” They also plan to testify against the bill in committee. The ‘You Can’t Jail the Revolution Stop SB 285’ protest is hosted by Indy10-Black Lives Matter, DONT S.L.E.E.P., Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana & Kentucky, and Indy Feminists. It runs from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m.

If you can’t attend, organizers ask you to call the committee NOW to Oppose SB 285. They said when you call you’ll be speaking with their legislative assistants, so be polite and use this short script…

“I’m calling to ask that Senator ______ oppose SB 285 that they’ll be hearing in the committee for Local Government tomorrow. This bill is designed to intimidate free speech, and would inhibit democracy. Thank you.”
