Nominations for the Golden Globe Awards are out. “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Lion,” “Machester by the Sea,” and “Moonlight” were nominated for Best Movie, in the
Drama category. In the Best Movie-Comedy category the nominees include “20th Century Women,” “Florence Foster Jenkins,” “Deadpool,” “La La Land” and “Sing Street.”
Actors and actresses to note: Denzel Washington, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama; Ruth Negga, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama; Anthony Anderson and Donald Glover, Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy; Mahershala Ali, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture; Viola Davis, Naomie Harris and Octavia Spencer, Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture; Courtney B. Vance, The People Vs OJ, Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television; Thandie Newton, Westworld, Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television; Kerry Washington, Confirmation, Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television; and Issa Rae and Tracee Ellis-Ross, Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. There is also a director to note: Barry Jenkins, “Moonlight”, Best Director – Motion Picture.
Glaringly absent was any acknowledgement of a film and its producer/lead actor that took the Sundance Film Festival by storm, “The Birth Of A Nation” and Nate Parker.

The Golden Globes will be presented on January 8 on NBC. “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon will emcee the event and extravaganza.
