Hillary Clinton made history Thursday night when she officially became the first woman to become a major political party’s nominee for president. She accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination during the last night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Clinton took some swipes at her Republican presidential rival Donald Trump to draw the stark differences between them. She criticized him for his temperament, saying “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man you can trust with nuclear weapons.” Despite her “Trump-talk”, she wasted no time talking about the work that she wants to do for the people and her plan to get to it. Clinton told the delegates that she plans to work with both parties in her first 100 days, to pass the biggest investment in jobs in this nation since World War II.

Here in Indy…

Indy firefighters have battled a multi-house fire on the east side this morning. A vacant home in the 1100 block North Hamilton Avenue was ablaze with flames shooting from it when IFD arrived and those flames spread to the occupied homes on both sides, according to various media reports. This happened just before 3:30 a.m. The residents fled and no injuries were reported. Damages top over $100,000.

Indianapolis Metro police say they’re looking for the man they think kidnapped a local woman, chained her in his basement and sexually assaulted her for days. Prosecutors filed charges on Thursday against Maurice Nelson. The charges included three counts of rape, criminal confinement, battery and a host of other crimes. Since the time police rescued the woman on July 14, they haven’t been able to locate Nelson.

IMPD investigators don’t think two deadly west side shootings are related. Both shootings happened Thursday about a half-mile apart.  Officers found Anthony Jones’ body inside a car in the 3000 block of West 18th Street. They found Devon Grice behind a house in the 1100 block of Sharon Avenue a little while later. No word on suspects.

IMPD Police Chief Troy Riggs says two people are responsible for ten-percent of Indy’s homicides this year. Riggs told the media that both of them are in police custody at this time. Riggs says 78 people have been murdered in Indy so far this year. Assaults have also ticked up.  The chief is trying to calm worries over new numbers that show a spike in crime in the Indy metro area this year.

Former Park Tudor basketball coach Kyle Cox will learn how long he’s going to spend in prison this afternoon. Cox, who admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with an underage female student, will be sentenced downtown at the Birch Bayh Federal Courthouse. Prosecutors want him to spend the next 14 years behind bars. He is asking for ten.

This is the final weekend to prep your children before classes begin at the largest school district here in Central Indiana, Indianapolis Public Schools. IPS heads back to school on Monday. Indiana lottery officials are still being vague as to whether they’ll introduce the winner of the $536-million Mega Millions jackpot later today. There’s a news conference planned for today. The lottery says a “winner’s representative” will be present. Someone bought the humongous jackpot winning ticket in Cambridge City, Indiana, earlier this month.

The Ramsey County Attorney in Minnesota is expected to make an announcement this morning concerning the deadly police shooting of Philando Castile. The incident happened July 6 and has sparked several protests in the Twin Cities. There’s no word on what will be revealed at today’s news conference. One key matter in front of John Choi is whether he’ll review the case himself, send it to a grand jury or get a special prosecutor to review the evidence.

Yet another Democratic group is reporting a hacking incident and has released a statement this morning. This time it’s the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and they said that the group had been the target of a cybersecurity incident similar to other recent attacks. It also said the group has hired the private technology firm CrowdStrike to investigate breach. Experts have pointed a finger at Russian hackers for the massive theft of documents from the Democratic National Committee.
