An injured Pacers player is thinking seriously about his role in the situation that has left him in a New York City hospital bed recuperating after being being stabbed.

Yes, forward Chris Copeland was no doubt the victim of a violent crime, however, he’s apologizing for his “bad choice of being out” early Wednesday morning. The 31-year-old athlete also vowed to work hard to make a full recovery. Copeland was stabbed in the abdomen and elbow during a scuffle that also left his ex-fiancee and another woman with stab wounds. Copeland apologized to everyone–particularly the NBA and the Indiana Pacers in a statement on Thursday. He has not returned to Indy because he’s still being treated in a hospital in the “Big Apple” where he’s in stable condition. Also on Thursday in Manhattan, the 22-year-old man who allegedly knifed all three victims, Shevoy Bleary-Murdock, was charged with criminal assault and criminal possession of a weapon during an arraignment.
