Gayle King is no stranger to gay rumors, but did she come out of the closet during a recent TV segment?

During a recent segment of “CBS This Morning,” King was speaking with her co-hosts, Norah O’Donnell and Charlie Rose, about finding the perfect mate and King joked to Rose that they may make a great couple.

Viewers across the nation were shocked few moments later as the hosts erupted in laughter and King uttered,

“I’m just kidding. I’m gay.”

For years, rumors have swirled that King has been in a secret lesbian relationship with her BFF, Oprah Winfrey, so when the segment aired countless fans took it as King’s coming out moment.

However, CBS officials soon claimed that King never said she was gay, and when TMZ caught up with King outside of CBS studios, she clarified her comment, denying as well that she claimed she was gay.

“I didn’t say that. Charlie and I were joking around and I said, ‘I’m OK. I’m kidding, I’m kidding. I’m OK,” she explained.

“I always say if I was gay, I would tell you,” she said, playfully adding that she’s more interested in Rose than any woman. “I’m sitting next to Charlie Rose. I’m trying to get a date with him. Why would I sit next to him and say I’m gay?”
