One woman died Thursday morning from her injuries in an early morning west side apartment fire. Though her name hasn’t been released yet, she was a 60-year-old with mobility issues. Initially, she was taken away from the scene at the Pangea Meadows Apartments to Eskenazi Hospital in extremely critical condition. She died there about an hour later from her injuries. The fire broke out at about 3:45 a.m. in 3400 block of Ashley Lane, near 34th and Moller Road.  At least three other residents have fire-related injuries and six units are damaged, impacting at least 14 people. According to our sister station AM-1310’s Deacon Drew who was on the scene, residents jumped in to help rescue each other. At one point, Drew and others held a mattress to catch a woman who had to jump from her apartment window to escape the spreading flames. Early reports indicate that food left unattended while cooking on a stove may be the cause of this blaze.
