*The Help” director Tate Taylor will reunite with the film’s stars Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer for his upcoming biopic on James Brown for producers Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger.
As previously reported, “42” star Chadwick Boseman will play the Godfather of Soul in “Get On Up.”
Davis will play his mother Susie Brown, who was only 16 when she gave birth to the future R&B icon, and abandoned him to live with relatives. Spencer will play the child’s aunt, Anne Tunney, a formative figure in his upbringing.
Universal will start production November in Mississippi. The script is by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth.
Under Taylor’s direction in “The Help,” Davis was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award and Spencer won for Best Supporting Actress.
