The local Fraternal Order of Police union has voted to rescind all legal assistance to suspended Indianapolis police Officer David Bisard in the wake of a weekend crash.

FOP President Sgt. Bill Owensby said the revocation of financial assistance should not reflect on Bisard’s guilt or innocence in the 2010 crash, in which prosecutors said he was drunk when he slammed his squad car into a group of motorcyclists, killing one.

But Owensby said Bisard’s most recent arrest on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated “reflect very poorly on this lodge.”

“(This step) represents a steadfast commitment to the trust and responsibility amongst our other 3,000 active and retired members,” Owensby said in a news release.
