A Kansas City Chiefs player is dead in an apparent murder-suicide Saturday.   Kansas City police say the unidentified player shot and killed his girlfriend at a suburban home and then drove 5 miles to the team’s practice facility adjacent to Arrowhead Stadium and then shot and killed himself, according to Kansas City police supervisor Andrea Khan.

Khan said the 25-year-old Chiefs player was met by coaches in the parking lot of the practice facility and he took his own life moments thereafter.

Khan would not name the Chiefs player involved or the identify of his girlfriend, pending notification of their families.

“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier,” the Chiefs organization said in a statement. “We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”

According to Fox Sports, Chiefs players are being asked to assemble at the team facility for a meeting regarding the situation.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. NFL officials have a short time period to decide whether the game will be played as scheduled at 1 p.m. ET Sunday. NFL officials have told the Panthers to travel as planned Saturday to Kansas City, according to the Charlotte Observer.
